HIFU is a relatively new cosmetic treatment for skin tightening and body
contouring that some might consider as a non-invasive and painless
alternative to facelifts and body shaping surgeries. It uses ultrasound
energy to encourage the production of collagen, which results in firmer
skin.
The HIFU device emits high intensity focused ultrasound waves that
target the layer of the skin where fat is stored. The energy from these
waves destroys the fat cells which are then naturally eliminated by the
body. The treatment is non-invasive and usually painless, yet, a feeling
of warm sensation or mild discomfort may be felt.
In addition to body contouring, it is also used for facial lifting and
tightening.
After a HIFU treatment, patients often see some immediate effects, but
the final results may take some time to show.
HIFU treatment can have some side effects. These may include slight
redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area, but, these effects
are temporary and will fade away after a few days of treatment.
Although HIFU is a promising treatment for body contouring, it is not
suitable for everyone. It is most effective for people close to their
suitable body weight who have specific areas of fat that they want to
reduce. The important point to be noted about this treatment is, it is not
a solution for weight loss. Further, pregnant ladies and individuals with
certain medical conditions should keep away from this treatment.
